25 criminal cases opened over Defense Ministry property abuse - Prosecutor General
MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Twenty-five criminal cases have been opened over the illegal alienation of Defense Ministry property with the damage totaling over 5 billion rubles, Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said at the Government Hour in the State Duma on Wednesday.
"Inspections were held and prosecutors filed materials for bringing criminal charges against a number of officials at the Defense Ministry property department and Oboronservice accused of selling underpriced property," he said.
The materials were assessed and 25 criminal cases were opened; later on they were combined into a single case, he said.
"The damage is preliminary estimated at 5 billion ruble. More than 2.3 billion ruble was prevented," the prosecutor general said.
More than one billion rubles have been compensated, he added.
"The work goes on with the participation of all supervisory entities of the country," the prosecutor general said.
