BRASILIA. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev awarded Pushkin Medals to Paulo Azevedo Bezerra, a Brazilian translator and researcher, and to Galina Chevtchuk, the artistic director of the Coral Russo Melodia choir based in Brazil during his working visit to this country.
The two received the awards "for their achievements in the fields of culture and art, education, humanities and literature and for their great contribution to studying and preserving cultural heritage, bringing together cultures, nations, and peoples and mutually enriching them," says a Russian presidential decree.
In presenting the awards, Medvedev mentioned each laureate's merits and said he was happy that this event concluded his working visit to Brazil.
"Not everything is determined purely by the economy," Medvedev said.
