Russia willing to develop cooperation with Brazil in all areas - Medvedev

BRASILIA. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russia is willing to develop cooperation with Brazil "in all areas, including the military-technological one," Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview to the Brazilian TV company Globo.

In commenting on a journalist's remark about Brazil's interest in Russian weapons, particularly air defense systems, Medvedev said, "the Russian-Brazilian relationship has advanced now, which also concerns their military-technological cooperation."

Medvedev confirmed that military-technological cooperation was discussed during his negotiations with President Dilma Rousseff and Vice President Michel Temer on Wednesday.

"We will think how to help our partners, especially considering that we are truly a key player on the weapons market. Our weapons are good, modern and competitive in terms of their price," he said.

Russia "is willing to share its technologies, but this should be a mutually beneficial process," Medvedev said. "There is no sense in giving up technology and losing money. But if we talk about joint ventures benefiting both Russia and Brazil and if we get some money together by jointly using technologies, this is fine," he said.

When the Brazilian journalist mentioned reformist reputation that Medvedev has gained with foreign journalists, the Russian premier said his views have not changed. "I believe modernization and reform is what our economy needs. Moreover, international economic relations also need modernization, and the IMF and World Bank reform is also modernization. We all should change, because the economic conditions are changing," he said.

"It is very important for Russia to reach another technological level," he said.
