Evraz to start extracting iron ore at Sobstvenno-Kachkanarskoye deposit in 2015

YEKATERINBURG. Feb 21 (Interfax) - OJSC Evraz Kachkanar Mining and Processing Plant (Evraz KGOK), which is part of Evraz and located in the Sverdlovsk region, plans to start extracting iron ore at the Sobstvenno-Kachkanarskoye titanium magnetite deposit in 2015, the Evraz Group's Urals regional corporate relations center said in a statement.

Further exploration of the deposit's reserves uncovered 8.2 billion tonnes of ore, which will endow the company with approximately 140 years of stable operations.

The Russian Regional Development Ministry's Main Directorate for State Analysis has given Evraz KGKO the thumbs up to develop the Sobstvenno-Kachkanarskoye deposit, the statement said.

The first phase of the field's development involves the use of a road and rail scheme for transporting ore, for the purpose of which Evraz KGOK plans to reconstruct the Yuzhnaya Station, which is located on the company's routes near the Zapadny open pit, as well as to acquire 130-tonne dump trucks and 12-cubic excavators. Evraz KGOK will also build a transformer substation and a treatment facility complex.

As reported, Evraz will invest $150 million in the development of the Sobstvenno-Kachkanarskoye deposit in 2012-2020.

Evraz is a large vertically integrated mining and metallurgical company and the only producer of vanadium-containing iron ore in Russia. It is also one of the largest producers of vanadium slag in the world.

Evraz KGOK is developing the Gusevogorskoye field, which contains a vanadium alloy component. In the future, the Sobstvenno-Kachkanarskoye deposit is expected to replace the Gusevogorskoye deposit, which is approaching the end of its life.
