Swine flu dominant among European Russia's flu types - official

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Swine influenza is dominant among flu viruses going round European Russia today, said the country's chief sanitary official.

"Whereas in the European part it's H1N1 flu, in the Asian part it's H3N2," Gennady Onishchenko said in a program on the Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) radio on Thursday.

He described Russia's current flu incidence as "moderate."

In Khakasia, the epidemic threshold has been exceeded by 138%. "In the rest [of the country] incidence is 19%, 15% above the threshold, and so on," Onishchenko said.

In a comment on reports that swine flu was the cause of the death of three children in the Moscow region, he said it had not been confirmed that this was what they had died of.
