Rusgeology to present long-term development strategy to govt by March 1

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Russian state holding Rusgeology plans to present the government with its long-term development program by March 1, the holding's acting General Director Andrei Tretyakov told reporters.

"Right now we are very actively preparing our long-term strategy together with the Natural Resources Ministry and Rosnedra [the Russian Federal Subsurface Resources Agency]. We will present it to the government by March 1," he said.

Rusgeology's key mission is to conduct further survey at subsoil sections before they are given over for company use, Tretyakov said.

"We have a breakdown between regional work done on the government's dime and work on geological survey, which is carried out by companies. It's that gap which we have to compensate for, so as to raise the capitalization of the sections," he said.

For Rusgeology, the optimal scenario would be to perform speculative or multi-client seismic, the result of which would later be sold to companies, Tretyakov said.

Perhaps, once Rusgeology's strategy is reviewed, the question of appointing a new chief will be resolved, he said.
