Japan set to develop relations with Kyrgyzstan - premier
TOKYO. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev agreed on further assistance to his country at negotiations with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Japan pledged to continue assistance to Kyrgyzstan for strengthening democracy and promoting sustainable and balanced economic growth in a joint statement Atambayev and Abe signed on results of the official visit of the Kyrgyz leader.
The statement said Kyrgyzstan and Japan would "jointly survey rare earth metals in Kyrgyzstan and cooperate in energy saving and renewable energy resources."
Kyrgyzstan occupies an important geopolitical position on the Eurasian crossroads and Japan wishes to consolidate bilateral relations, Abe told Atambayev.
The Kyrgyz president came to Japan on an official visit. He is the first foreign statesman received by the Japanese prime minister upon his accession to office.
The sides signed memoranda of cooperation between the Kyrgyz and Japanese economy ministries and interaction in education and in the prevention of natural calamities.
