Kazakhstan informs Russia about plans to deploy system similar to ERA-GLONASS in 21 years
MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - The Kazakh version of the ERA-GLONASS system will be fully deployed by 2015, Kazakhstan's representatives said at a meeting of Russian Vice Premier Vladislav Surkov and Kazakhstan's Vice Premier Kairat Kelimbetov.
"It was noted at the meeting that Kazakhstan plans to fully deploy a version of th ERA-GLONASS system on its territory by 2015," a newsletter posted on the website of the Russian Cabinet on Wednesday says.
It notes that in addition to Surkov and Kelimbetov, the meeting involved representatives of the Russian Transport Ministry, Kazakhtelecom and a non-profit partnership promoting the use of navigation technologies.
Participants discussed cooperation in the introduction of a system of urgent response to transport accidents employing the ERA-GLONASS system in Kazakhstan and the development of additional navigation and information services on its basis.
"Surkov noted that GLONASS technologies are in growing demand in the world. He said that at the current international mobile congress in Barcelona the Russian Ministry of Communication and Mass Media reached a number of understandings with major foreign producers of chipsets that confirmed their readiness to supply users with devices supporting GLONASS," the newsletter said.
Surkov and Kelimbetov signed an intergovernmental memorandum of cooperation in the development of a system of emergency response in accidents employing ERA-GLONASS on December 19, 2012.
The ERA-GLONASS system of emergency response to accidents was developed with the purpose of saving the lives of victims of road accidents and other emergencies on Russian roads. Experts believe that when introduced the system will help to annually save over 4,000 lives through reducing the response time of emergency services by up to 30%.
