Dollar surges as euro slides in Moscow trade on Friday
MOSCOW. March 1 (Interfax) - The dollar gained measurably on Friday, rising to its highest level against the ruble since December, as the euro declined on global markets.
As of 7:00 p.m. Moscow time, the dollar was up 17.5 kopecks to 30.77 rubles/$1 and the euro was down 8.7 kopecks to 39.95 rubles/EUR1, sending the bi-currency basket up 6 kopecks to 34.9 rubles.
The Central Bank raised its official dollar rate for the weekend by 12.57 kopecks to 30.6381 rubles/$1 and lowered the euro rate by 4.61 kopecks to 40.0563 rubles/EUR1.
The dollar averaged up 11.84 kopecks to 30.632 rubles/$1 in Today deals and up 15.5 kopecks to 30.69 rubles/$1 in Tom deals. Overall trading volume was $5.756 billion, including $1.726 billion Today and $4.030 billion Tom.
The euro shed 5.1 kopecks to 40.033 rubles/EUR1 in Today deals and 6.1 kopecks to 40.001 rubles/EUR1 in Tom deals in volume of EUR 540.5 million, including EUR244.5 million Today and EUR296 million Tom.
The MosPrime Rate for overnight credits declined 2 basis points to 6.07%.
