Caucasus Dialog project expcted to facilitate Sochi Olympics - Lavrov

MOSCOW. March 4 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the Caucasus Dialogue project is of great importance, given efforts to derail the Winter Olympic Games in 2014.

"I would like to discuss the role of the Caucasus Dialog project, being implemented by Gorchakov Foundation for Public Diplomacy, in defense of historical truth about the Caucasus and about the 19th century Caucasus war. We attach great importance to this work, given attempts to derail the Sochi Winter Olympic Games," Lavrov told Russian nongovernmental organizations in Moscow on Monday.

"Russia's priority interests also extend to the Commonwealth of Independent States, but the number of Russian nongovernmental organizations in the CIS hardly matches the actual potential," he said.

"The Commonwealth of Independent States remains among our priority interests. The presence of our public organizations in it hardly matches the actual potential. We want to actively support Russian-language education and to assist war veterans. We want to implement projects in cultural exchanges, democratic institutions and environmental protection," Lavrov said.
