Cold claims four lives in Russia in past 24 hrs
MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Four people died and over 30 suffered from hypothermia and frostbite in Russia in the past 24 hours, a healthcare sector source told Interfax on Tuesday.
"Four people died of hypothermia in the past 24 hours: three in Kamchatka, one in the Kemerovo region. A total of 272 people died of frostbite and hypothermia in Russia this winter so far," the source said.
The source said that in the past 24 hours 32 people suffered from hypothermia in Russia: nine in Kamchatka, seven in Tatarstan, and six in the Orenburg region.
The source said that "24 out of 32 people were admitted to hospitals. The highest rate of people hospitalized with hypothermia was in Tatarstan, seven, and five in the Orenburg region."
Over 6,600 people suffered from frostbite and hypothermia, almost 3,600 were hospitalized, this winter so far, the source said.
