Libyan authorities must control their arsenals, keep weapons from being obtained by terrorists - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - Russia has called for an investigation into the "leaks" of weapons from Libyan warehouses and liability for stopping such incidents rests with the country's authorities, Russian Foreign Ministry official Alexander Lukashevich said.

"As a member of the appropriate sanctions committee of the UN Security Council, Russia is calling for an in-depth investigation into all such incidents," Lukashevich told a briefing in Moscow.

Lukashevich reiterated that "the main liability for preventing uncontrolled leaks outside the countries of the region and its reliable protection rests primarily with the Libyan authorities, which must take all necessary measures to ensure tough control over their arsenals and prevent weapons, including MANPADs, from falling into the hands of terrorist groups."
