Every fourth Ukrainian ready to vote for Yanukovych in presidential election - poll
KYIV. March 6 (Interfax) - Over 25% of polled Ukrainians are ready to vote for Viktor Yanukovych in a presidential election, judging by a public opinion poll taken by Rating sociological group.
According to the results published on Wednesday, if elections were held in February 2013, the turnout would have been 70%.
Yanukovych would get the support of 25.1%, leader of UDAR party Vitali Klitschko - 15.1%, former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko - 13.9%, leader of Svoboda nationalist party Oleh Tiahnybok - 7.9%, Communist party leader Petro Simonenko - 7.7%, and head of Batkivschyna party faction in parliament Arseniy Yatsenyuk - 7.4%.
If Tymoshenko were not among the candidates, the top three would be as follows: Yanukovych (25.1%), Klitschko (16.8%) and Yatsenyuk (15.1%).
"Almost 60% of Tymoshenko's supporters would be ready to vote for Yatsenyuk in the first round, 10% for Klitschko and Tiahnybok each, every sixth would be undecided or vote against all," the report says.
Thus, if presidential elections were held now, Yanukovych would have to face either Klitschko or Yatsenyuk in the runoff.
The poll was conducted on February 22-28. A total of 2,000 adults around the country were questioned.
