Court orders arrest of man suspected of attacking Bolshoi ballet director

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax) - Moscow's Tagansky Court has ordered the arrest of Yury Zarutsky, who is suspected of attacking Bolshoi Theater Ballet Director Sergei Filin, and granting the investigation's request.

The court ruled that Zarutsky, as well as Pavel Dmitrichenko, who is suspected of ordering the crime, will remain in custody at least until April 18.

The judge said she could not apply a milder restrictive measure to Zarutsky as he could otherwise hide from the judicial and investigative authorities, destroy material evidence and put pressure on witnesses.

The ruling may be appealed with the Moscow City Court within three days.

Zarutsky's lawyer Gennady Poletykin told Interfax that his client would seek milder qualification of his actions.

"We will seek minimization of the punishment and the investigation's milder position," he said.
