EU optimistic about official passport problem solution

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - EU chief visa negotiator Stefano Manservisi has declared advancement towards adding official passports to the pending visa relaxation accord with Russia.

He told a Monday press conference at Interfax that it was still necessary to decide which categories of official passport holders would be eligible for the easier visa regime.

The official passport issue dragged out the negotiations, as the EU asked itself whether that was really necessary, Manservisi said. He noted the EU realized that the request to include official passport holders in the agreement was fair and certain progress was made.

Member countries are considering the proposal and the EU expects to settle the problem one way or another soon, he said. In fact, the new edition of the visa relaxation agreement is ready, the official remarked.
