Serbian standpoint on Kosovo unchanged - President Nikolic

MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - Serbia has an unwavering position on Kosovo and Metohija in spite of its wish to join the European Union, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said in Minsk on Tuesday after negotiations with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko.

"Serbia seeks to become a member of the European Union and we fulfill every requirement of the EU Council. Many still think that Serbia is willing to do anything to join the EU and many have unlimited appetites. So I have already said today that we are unable to do certain things even in exchange for admission to the European Union," he said.

"We have a problem with Kosovo and Metohija where the UN is gradually transferring power to the Albanians," the Serbian leader said.

Speaking of negotiations with Lukashenko, Nikolic said, "We will certainly implement today's agreements. In fact, we guarantee the fulfillment of our accords."

"I have been long waiting for an opportunity to congratulate you on the way you govern the country," Nikolic told Lukashenko.

"Serbia had been under EU sanctions for years. That is the root of our crisis. We did not give up when they decided to bomb us. I hope there will no longer be such a democracy," the Serbian president said.
