Russian govt, European Commission to discuss energy, trade, visas

MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - Representatives from the Russian government and the European Commission will meet in Moscow on March 21-22 to discuss bilateral cooperation in the energy, industry and trade sectors and the liberalization of visa regulations.

"During a Russia-European Commission plenary meeting, its participants will conduct a comprehensive review of Russia-EU relations, with an emphasis placed on cooperation in the energy, trade, industry, transport, science and education sectors," the Russian government press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

The liberalization of visa regulations is also on the meeting's agenda, it said.

The previous meeting in the same format took place in Brussels in February 2011.

The March 21-22 meeting is also expected to deal with "interaction in the areas of freedom, security and the rule of law, the implementation of a joint initiative on partnership for modernization," it said.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso will take part in a conference dealing with opportunities for Russia-EU partnership organized on March 21 by the Russian Council for International Affairs.
