Police ready to check facts casting doubt on Bolshoi acid attack suspects' guilt - official
MOSCOW. March 13 (Interfax) - Moscow police are ready to look into arguments in defense of Bolshoi Theater ballet dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko, suspected of arranging an acid attack on Bolshoi Ballet Director Sergei Filin, if the theater staff presents such, Maxim Vanichkin, a Moscow police criminal investigations department deputy chief, said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Dozens of Bolshoi Theater staff members published an open letter earlier questioning Dmitrichenko's responsibility for the acid attack on Filin.
"As concerns letters, we always treat culture figures with understanding. If [the Bolshoi staff] tells us some facts showing that some of [the suspects] are not involved in the crime, we will certainly verify this," Vanichkin said.
The Moscow criminal investigations department has not received such information so far, he said.
"As I see it, this could be some of the suspects' alibi or another suspect who could have possibly committed the crime, but there is nothing of the sort so far," Vanichkin said.
"We are following the situation and will bring the case to the end and check all facts, not only what we are aware of but also what these people are saying. Taking into account that we probably deal with problems of slander and false confession even more often than defense attorneys, I am not interested in having such information here, either," he said.
