About 11,000 contract servicemen to be recruited in Russia's Far East

MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax-AVN) - About 11,000 contract servicemen will be recruited in the Eastern Military District in 2013, the military district's spokesman Alexander Gordeyev told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"Drivers and servicemen for communications and submarine forces are in the greatest demand," Gordeyev said.

Since centers were opened for recruiting contract servicemen on July 1, 2012, more than 6,000 citizens have applied, he said. About 2,500 of them have been selected and joined the military district's units and formations, Gordeyev said.

About a thousand contract servicemen have been selected at recruitment centers in Ulan-Ude, Chita, Khabarovsk, Yakutsk, Yuzhno-Sakalinsk and Magadan, and started serving in units and formations. Another 200 have had medical tests successfully and are undergoing advanced training, he said.
