easyJet cleared for flights to Moscow
MOSCOW. March 15 (Interfax) - UK-based low cost carrier easyJet has received all the necessary permits from the Russian aviation authorities to conduct regularly scheduled flights from London and Manchester to Moscow's Domodedovo Airport, easyJet said in a press release.
The first flight to Moscow is scheduled for March 18.
easyJet will offer seven flights a week.
Transaero airline reported last week it concluded a commercial agreement with easyJet as provided for in the Russian-UK treaty on air travel between the two countries. Flights between the UK and Russia are regulated by that treaty on a parity basis.
The designated airlines were British Airways, Aeroflot Russian Airlines , Transaero and bmi, until British Airways parent company International Airlines Group purchased bmi from German Lufthansa, giving easyJet its opportunity to enter the Russian market.
easyJet's fleet has grown from two planes in 1995 to 214 Airbus passenger jets today that carry over 59 million passengers a year.
