Iranian president's visit to Tajikistan rescheduled
DUSHANBE. March 19 (Interfax) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will not arrive in Tajikistan for the coming Navrus holiday, but instead will visit the country tentatively in the second half of April, Tajik Foreign Ministry spokesman Davlatali Nazriev told the media on Tuesday.
Ahmadinejad's visit was earlier set for March 21-26.
The Iranian president and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon are expected to dedicate the second power generating unit of the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant with a projected capacity of 220 megawatts.
Ahmadinejad will step down in August following presidential elections in June 2013, in which he has no right to participate given that his second term expires.
Trade between Iran and Tajikistan amounted to $217.5 million in 2012, up 4.9% compared to 2011. Iran accounted for 4.2% of Tajikistan's foreign trade in 2012.
