Special forces again exchange fire with gunmen in community outside Makhachkala - source
MAKHACHKALA. March 21 (Interfax) - Special forces clashed with gunmen in the area of an operation in the community of Semender outside Makhachkala on Thursday morning, a Dagestani law enforcement source told Interfax.
"In clearing the rubble and mopping up the area, commandos once again met armed resistance, and the fire exchange is continuing," he said.
The special forces will have to comb quite a large territory to clear it of gunmen, he said.
"The house's basements are reinforced very well and cover a large area. There are places to hide there, and so the special operation is continuing," he said.
A law enforcement source had said earlier that the bodies of two dead gunmen had been found in the rubble of a house partly destroyed in a previous exchange of fire with members of illegal armed groups in Semender.
Interfax has yet to obtain official comments on the matter.
