Moscow should verify NATO official's words on preparedness to intervene in Syria - diplomat
MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - Moscow intends to verify a statement by Adm. James Stavridis, the commander of the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM), suggesting that NATO is ready to replay the Libyan scenario in Syria.
"We need to look at this statement closely, word by word. Naturally, such statements or the way this is covered by the media should always be verified to see how authentically the media quote the source," a Russian diplomatic source told Interfax on Thursday.
The Western media reported Stavridis as saying recently at the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee that the NATO member-states were preparing plans of operations to end the civil war in Syria.
"We are prepared, if called upon, to be engaged as we were in Libya," Stavridis said reportedly.
