Russian ministry ready to cooperate with investigators over ex-university rector's case
MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - Viktor Kozbanenko, former rector of the State University of Management, personally made all decisions on how to run the university, the Russian Education and Science Ministry said, denying any involvement in possible violations.
"The former rector made all decisions on how to run the university, its educational process and maintenance on his own. Such issues fall under the jurisdiction of an educational institution in accordance with existing laws," the ministry said in a press release seen by Interfax on Thursday.
The Education Ministry "is ready to further cooperate with police as part of this investigation," it said.
Detectives from the police department of Moscow's Eastern Administrative District were working at the Education and Science Ministry building as part of a criminal inquiry against the ex-rector. Several documents were confiscated and Deputy Education and Science Minister Marat Kambolotov was questioned as a witness.
"Officials of the Education and Science Ministry presented all of the requested documents and answered all questions from the investigators," the ministry said.
