One more charged in connection with Bolotnaya Square riots
MOSCOW. March 28 (Interfax) - Russia's prosecution service has charged one more person in connection with the riots on Moscow's Bolotnaya Square during an opposition demonstration in May 2012.
Yelena Kokhtareva, a pensioner aged 57, was charged with rioting and violence against police, and had travel restrictions put on her, her lawyer Yury Krugov told Interfax on Thursday.
"Today we have visited an investigator, she was charged and gave evidence," Krugov said. "I can't give you any other details - we signed a non-divulgence obligation. Very soon, when the investigators release information from the indictment, I will appeal it."
The lawyer said there are videos on the Internet showing Kokhtareva among demonstrators on Bolotnaya Square.
An opposition demonstration on May 6, 2012, that had been permitted by the city administration ended up in clashes between demonstrators and police as the former were moving onto Bolotnaya Square, the site of a planned rally that would have been the final point of a procession through central Moscow. More than 400 people were arrested.
The police claimed that the opposition had deliberately provoked the violence, while the opposition accused the police of trying to block the demonstrators' access to Bolotnaya Square.
