Batumi Oil Terminal handles 8% more cargo in Q1
TBILISI. April 4 (Interfax) - Batumi Oil Terminal (BOT), which is owned by KazTransOil, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company KazMunaiGas, handled 1.502 million tonnes of crude oil and oil products in the first quarter of 2013, 8.3% more than in the same period of 2012.
BOT's administration told Interfax that 1.048 million tonnes of crude oil (69.8% of total) was shipped to world markets through the terminal in the first quarter, 3.5% more year-on-year.
There was also growth in oil product shipments, with the exception of gasoline, which fell by over 60% to 31,900 tonnes, and other light oil products, which were down 37.9% to 42,400 tonnes. Diesel shipments rose 17.6% to 34,100, and the terminal handled 30,700 tonnes of jet fuel and 74,400 tonnes of naphtha, which it did not handle at all last year.
Liquefied gas shipments through the terminal plunged 49.7% to 18,700 tonnes.
The terminal, which receives oil and oil products by rail primarily from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, handled 5.19 million tonnes in 2012, 3.1% less than in 2011.
KazTransOil acquired BOT and the management rights to the Batumi Seaport from international investment group Greenoak Holdings in February 2008.
