Georgian villagers drive away Indian farmers

TBILISI. April 4 (Interfax) - Residents of the Georgian village of Ditsi, which is located close to the administrative border on South Ossetia, have driven away Indian farmers.

On Thursday morning, village residents learned that the local authorities had sold 140 hectares of land to Indian citizens in December 2012.

The Indian land owners dug pits in the land in the early hours of Thursday and tried planting fruit trees there.

The locals made the Indian farmers stop all agricultural work and told reporters they will complain to prosecutors about the officials who sold the land without their knowledge. They said they are prepared to fight for their land "till they bleed" if their complaint is not granted.

The local authorities are currently not commenting on the incident.
