Russia does not seek punishment for Femen protesters in Germany - Peskov

AMSTERDAM. April 9 (Interfax) - Moscow has not asked the German authorities to punish activists from the feminist group Femen who confronted Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a trade fair in Hanover, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told Interfax.

"Not a single official representing the Russian side has asked the German authorities to punish the activists of the Femen movement in any way," he said.

"However, acts of hooliganism should be punished. But they are not our hooligans, and it is not up to us to punish them," Peskov said.

Putin and Merkel were visiting the Hanover Trade Fair on Monday when a topless woman tried to push her way through to the Russian president. Her back was painted with an obscene slogan directed against the Russian leader.

Several media outlets claimed later that the Russian authorities had asked Germany to impose penalties on the Femen protesters.
