Government transfers Russian Post to Communications Ministry
MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - Russian Post, a state enterprise, will be made directly subordinate to the Communications and Mass Media Ministry under an April 6 resolution that has been published on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Russian Post is currently subordinate to the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz).
The resolution gives the Communications Ministry three months to coordinate the transfer with all the executive bodies concerned.
The Communications Ministry had previously proposed that the government transfer Russian Post to it and replace its head, sources familiar with the situation told Interfax in March.
In recent times, Russian Post and the Communications Ministry have held discussions on the outlook for reforming the postal enterprise. Russian Post opposes a number of provisions in draft laws concerning the post that were drawn up by the Communications Ministry, which in turn has shown little interest in discussing a modernization program drafted by Russian Post. Indeed, the ministry drew up its own financial model for the postal enterprise that includes possible privatization of the post's logistical business.
