Chiefs of CIS general staffs to coordinate action plan, protection of state secrets
MOSCOW. April 10 (Interfax) - The CIS Committee of Chiefs of General Staffs will convene in Moscow on Wednesday.
More than ten items regarding various spheres of CIS military cooperation will be on the agenda, Secretary of the CIS Committee of Defense Ministers Lt. Gen. Alexander Sinaisky told reporters.
"New Russian General Staff Chief Gen. of the Army Valery Gerasimov will chair the meeting for the first time. The participants will discuss 13 items of multilateral cooperation between CIS member states and make decisions, which will be offered for consideration of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers in Minsk on June 5," the general said.
The meeting will consider the adjustment of the agreement on use and upgrading of military satellite systems of March 12, 1993, and interaction of security services in the protection of state secrets. Bearing in mind common and national interests, the commanders will discuss a joint action plan of the armed forces of CIS member countries in 2014 and ways of its implementation.
"Traditionally, much attention will be given to the creation and improvement of the joint (combined) military systems. For instance, the CIS Committee of Chiefs of General Staffs will discuss efforts of the Coordination Committee of Communications Chiefs of the Armed Forces of the CIS Member Countries at the CIS Committee of Defense Ministers to create a joint (combined) communication and automation network of CIS armies," Sinaisky said.
Interaction in engineering, topo-geodesic and navigation support to the CIS armies and radiation, chemical and biological protection of forces and structures is important for CIS multilateral military cooperation, he said.
Besides, the meeting will evaluate safety of flights of CIS military aircraft in 2012 and organization of operations of the CIS Committee of Chiefs of General Staffs.
Chiefs of general staffs of the armed forces of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Ukraine will attend the meeting.
