Russia, U.S. favor a speedy meeting of Middle East quartet - Lavrov
LONDON. April 10 (Interfax) - Russia and the United States agree on the need for a speedy meeting of the Middle East quartet of mediators, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.
"The secretary of state agreed that there have been no meetings of the Middle East Quartet at the ministerial level for quite a long time. There is an understanding that such a meeting should be convened soon," he said on Wednesday in London after talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
Lavrov added that it "would be ideal to involve Arab states in the processes discussed in the framework of the quartet."
"And it would be perfect, if such a meeting would take place with the participation of Palestinians and Israelis. Too much mistrust has accumulated and Palestinian problems have gone unresolved for too long," Lavrov said.
He said Kerry agreed that despite all the turns of the Arab spring "which occupy minds, we must not lose heart."
