Latvia's LDz Cargo sees rail shipments slump 8% in Q1
RIGA. April 11 (Interfax/BNS) - LDz Cargo, a subsidiary of Latvian state railroad company Latvijas dzelzcels (LDz), carried 15.834 million tonnes of freight in the first quarter of 2013, 7.9% less than in the same period last year.
Import freight was down 3.8% to 13.344 million tonnes, export freight slipped 0.8% to 1.401 million tonnes, domestic freight jumped 26.4% to 297,000 tonnes and transit freight tumbled 52.7% to 792,000 tonnes, LDz Cargo said in a statement.
The company carried 5.126 million tonnes of freight in March alone, 17.5% less year-on-year.
LDz Cargo, which is wholly owned by LDz, specializes in freight shipments and international passenger services.
