Tajik president yet to decide on taking part in election

DUSHANBE. April 11 (Interfax) - Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has not decided whether or not he will take part in the presidential election of November 2013, the presidential press service reported on Thursday.

"I have not made any final decisions regarding my participation in the November election," the press service quoted the president's answer to the question asked at his joint press conference with European Parliament President Martin Schulz during a visit to Belgium.

"As the president and guarantor of the constitution, I can guarantee that the presidential election Tajikistan that will be held in the fall 2013 will be transparent, free and democratic," Rahmon said.

The date of the election has not been announced so far. Regularly, Tajikistan elects the president on the first Sunday of November, so it could be November 3, 2013.

None of Tajik politicians have expressed presidential ambitions yet.
