Inquiry against Moscow region ex-prosecutor Ignatenko over - lawyer

MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The criminal investigation against the Moscow region's former First Deputy Prosecutor Alexander Ignatenko, who is a suspect in an illegal casino case, has been completed.

"We have been informed of a resolution confirming the completion of the preliminary inquiry into Ignatenko's case," the ex-prosecutor's lawyer Alexander Asnis told Interfax.

Ignatenko is a suspect in the so-called illegal casinos case, opened against prosecutors in the Moscow region suspected of patronizing the illegal gaming business. He stands accused of accepting over 48 million rubles in bribes from organizers of the gaming business in the Moscow region. He is also suspected of involvement in illegal transactions with land sites and gaining 2 million rubles in revenue from them.

Moscow's Basmanny Court ordered Ignatenko's arrest in July 2011 and he was declared internationally wanted in November the same year.

He was detained at the Polish ski resort Zakopane on January 2, 2012 and he has remained under arrest since then. Ignatenko was extradited to Moscow on February 7, 2013.

Ignatenko was questioned by investigators on February 8, after which he was charged with accepting a bribe.

According to the lawyer, a criminal inquiry on counts of fraud was closed, which was the Polish authorities' condition for extraditing Ignatenko to Russia.

The Moscow City Court prolonged Ignatenko's custodial term until July 1.

New charges were filed against the former prosecutor on February 25.
