Roscosmos role must be enhanced, space holdings consolidated - Rogozin
BLAGOVESHCHENSK. April 12 (Interfax-AVN) - It has been decided to preserve and enhance the role of the Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) after consideration of several space industry restructuring scenarios, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said at the Friday conference titled "Russian Space Industry Development Prospects".
"It is necessary to preserve and strengthen the role of Roscosmos with the simultaneous phased consolidation of large space holdings," Rogozin said.
"Accomplishment of the tasks set by draft fundamentals of the state policy on space activity until 2030 and in a later period of restoration of the reputation of our space industry, its modernization, greater reliability of hardware and securing of a leading position for the country require the soonest reform of the space industry and an optimal management algorithm," Rogozin said.
"The Russian prime minister ordered the formation of an interdepartmental group under my chairmanship last August," he said.
The group concluded that it was necessary to preserve and enhance the role of the federal executive authority - the Federal Space Agency - simultaneously with phased reorganization of the space industry through the establishment of large holdings - joint stock companies to be owned by Russia at 100%, Rogozin said.
"These holdings will develop and manufacturer competitive orbital vehicles, launch vehicles, rocket engines, control systems, instruments and strategic missiles," the vice-premier said.
Addressing President Vladimir Putin, Rogozin said, "In the case of your basic consent, dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, the government will present to you shortly detailed draft decisions with regard to the aforesaid proposals."
