Lukashenko hopes to deepen political dialogue, foster economic cooperation with Venezuela

MINSK. April 15 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated Nicolas Maduro on winning a convincing victory in the Venezuelan presidential election and invited him to pay an official visit to Belarus, a source at the presidential press service told Interfax.

"Belarus is sincerely happy for you and Venezuela. We wholeheartedly supported the continuation of the cause of great politician of the 20th and 21st century, Commandante Hugo Chavez. The choice made by the people of Venezuela displays great confidence and recognition of your outstanding merits in the protection and support of state interests of Venezuela," Lukashenko said.

Official reports said Acting President Maduro won a close victory in the Sunday presidential election in Venezuela. Venezuelan opposition leader Enrique Capriles refused to recognize the presidential election results until "every last vote was re-counted."
