U.S. intends to develop relations with Georgia - ambassador

TBILISI. April 16 (Interfax) - The United States is interested in further cooperation with Georgia, Georgian Ambassador to the U.S. Archil Gegeshidze told reporters on Tuesday after he had presented his credentials to U.S. President Barack Obama.

Gegeshidze said that Obama told him that the United States intended to develop bilateral relations in the framework of the U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership.

"The U.S. president assured me that he personally and his government will make every effort to enhance cooperation with Georgia and that these relations were important to the U.S. side," Gegeshidze said.

When asked when the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili to Washington could take place, Gegeshidze said that "there are no exact dates" yet.
