Investigation into case involving false report of a crime against Razvozzhayev completed - Investigations Committee
MOSCOW. April 17 (Interfax) - The investigation into a criminal case against opposition activist Leonid Razvozzhayev involving a false report of a crime has been completed, the press service for the Investigations Committee told Interfax.
"The investigation into the case involving a false report of a crime against Leonid Razvozzhayev has been completed. The materials have been forwarded to the prosecutors, who will approve an indictment," the press service said.
The press service recalled that Razvozzhayev, who was arrested in connection with the criminal case opened based on materials stated in the film Anatomy of Protest 2 in December 2012, accused an investigator from the Investigations Committee of having tortured him in October 2012, when Razvozzhayev says he was abducted by unknown individuals in Ukraine.
"At the same time, a probe conducted by the Main Investigations Department in November 2012, determined that Razvozzhayev was not really abducted. The suspect was notified of the results of the probe and did not contest them until January 2013, when he gave the first explanations of his false report of a crime," the press service said.
The press service said that, besides the statement he made in court, Razvozzhayev asked the Russian prosecutor general to prosecute the Investigations Committee official and confirmed the information during two questionings in Angarsk.
"Insisting on his abduction version, Razvozzhayev did not admit having falsely accused the Investigations Committee investigator of a crime and said he had probably pointed at the wrong person and had been tortured by a different person," the press service said.
Razvozzhayev, a Left Front activist, is a suspect in several criminal cases. He is a suspect in the case involving the riots on Moscow's Bolotnaya Square in May 2012 and preparations for the organization of mass riots in Russia, illegal border-crossing, and making a false report of a crime.
Razvozzhayev was also accused of assault committed in Angarsk, Irkutsk region, in 1997. The case has now been closed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
A case involving illegal border crossing was opened against the opposition activist on December 4, 2012.
