Georgia consumes 3.7% less energy in Q1
TBILISI. April 17 (Interfax) - Energy consumption in Georgia decreased by 3.7% year-on-year to 2.598 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) in Q1 2013, Georgia's Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO) reported.
Distribution companies consumed 2.219 billion kWh of that electricity, or 3.4% less than they used a year earlier.
The majority - 1.018 billion kWh - was consumed by users of the company Energo-Pro Georgia, formerly called United Distribution Energy Company of Georgia, which is owned by Czech company Energo-Pro. They used 1.9% more energy than in Q1 2012.
In second place were users of Tbilisi-based power distribution company JSC Telasi, which is controlled by Russian energy company Inter RAO UES . These users consumed 569.1 million kWh, down 8.1%.
Abkhazia consumed 8.2% less electricity in Q1 2013, at 560.2 million kWh. Kakheti Energy Distribution, which belongs to Lithuanian concern Arema Group, used 72 million kWh of energy, up 3%.
Direct consumers, which include large businesses and organizations with direct electricity supply contracts with ESCO, used 379.1 million kWh of energy in Q1 2013, down 5.5%.
Georgia produced 0.4% less electricity in Q1 2013 than a year ago, at 2.45 billion kWh. It imported 29.2% less electricity, at 263.3 million kWh, and it did not export any power.
