UMMC boosts copper output 2%, steel roll 10% in 2012

YEKATERINBURG. April 18 (Interfax) - Urals Mining and Metals Company (UMMC) raised cathode copper production 1.9% inn 2012 to 389,900 tonnes, the press office of Russia's second biggest producer of the metal said.

Copper powder production was level with 2011 at 6,300 tonnes, while copper wire-rod production fell 6.5% to 282,300 tonnes.

Steel roll production rose 9.9% to 573,300 tonnes, zinc fell 8.4% to 135,600 tonnes, lead - 31.8% to 13,300 tonnes and nonferrous metal roll 2.2% to 59,000 tonnes, while copper cable production grew 260% to 344,000 km.

UMMC produced 45.4 million tonnes of coal last year, 8.8% less than in 2011.

UMMC controls more than 40 enterprises in various regions of Russia. Its main owners are its president, Iskander Makhmudov (over 50%) and CEO, Andrei Kozitsyn (35%). Board members Eduard Chukhlebov and Igor Kudryashkin each own 7.5%.
