Russian General Staff chief to meet with Cuban Defense Ministry officials

HAVANA. April 19 (Interfax) - Russian Armed Forces General Staff Chief Gen. Valery Gerasimov arrived in Cuba on Friday for a working visit.

"General Gerasimov's visit is meant to give fresh impetus to traditional military and military-technological cooperation between Russia and Cuba," a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman told Interfax-AVN.

Negotiations with senior officials of the Cuban Defense Ministry are expected to address a broad agenda, including ways to maintain and upgrade earlier delivered military hardware and personnel training programs, the spokesman said.

During his trip, which will continue until April 21, the Russian general will visit Cuba's radar center and a tank division, where he will be shown the country's industrial capabilities to modernize armored military hardware.
