Belarusian MiG-29 fighter jet flies along border with Lithuania - ministry

MINSK. April 19 (Interfax) - A MiG-29 airplane of the Belarusian Air Force flew along the state border with Lithuania where a violation of airspace allegedly occurred, the Belarusian Defense Ministry said on its website on Friday.

"A violation of the state border of the Belarus Republic in the airspace over the town of Grodno was detected by radar at around 1:00 a.m. on April 17. A MiG-29 airplane of the air defense forces flew along the state border of the Belarus Republic in order to respond to the possible violation," the ministry said.

"It was then established that it had been a migrating flock of birds. Objective control materials are being verified at the moment," it said.

The BNS news agency reported, citing the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, that a Belarusian Air Force plane had illegally entered Lithuania's airspace, prompting the Lithuanian authorities to express their protest over the incident to Belarus on April 18.
