Azerbaijan's gas production reaches 252 bcm since independence - Socar
BAKU. April 19 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan has produced 252 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in the 22 years since independence, Khoshbakht Yusifzade, the first vice president of State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (Socar), said in an article published in the government press.
"From the moment that development of the Shah Deniz field began in December 2006, the field has yielded 40.6 bcm of gas and 10.7 million tonnes of condensate. Six wells have been drilled at the field, enabling production of 25 million cubic meters of gas and 6,000 tonnes of condensate a day," the article says.
As of March 1, Azerbaijan had exported 24.2 bcm of gas to Turkey, 5.9 bcm to Georgia and 2.8 bcm to Russia.
Proved gas reserves in Azerbaijan, including discoveries at the Umid and Absheron fields, now total 2.55 trillion cubic meters.
"The planned exploration of the Babek, Nakhichevan, Zafar, Mashal, Shafag and Asiman structures will further increase reserves. With that goal in mind, Socar plans to build four technologically advanced drilling platforms able to drill to depths of 8,000-10,000 meters in waters 1,000 meters deep," he said.
As for the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli project, those fields have yielded 298.4 million tonnes of oil since the multinational consortium began production in November 1997, of which Azerbaijan received 152 million tonnes in profit oil. Meanwhile, 213 million tonnes of oil had been exported on the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline as of March 1, 2013.
