Trial of Belgorod shooter case will be open to public, press - source in Belgorod region's court

BELGOROD. April 24 (Interfax) - The trial of the case involving the killing of six people in Belgorod will be held in the Belgorod region's court, a source in the Belgorod region's court told Interfax on Wednesday.

"The trial of the case involving Sergei Pomazun, who shot and killed six people, will be open to the public and the press," the source said.

Pomazun may be sentenced to life in prison, the source said.

The source said the Belgorod Sverdlovsky District Court has not received the investigators' request to select a measure of restraint for the suspect yet.

Interfax currently has no confirmation of this information from the investigators and the judicial bodies.

Pomazun, a resident of Belgorod, who has a prior criminal conviction, went on a shooting spree in Belgorod, killing six people.

On the evening of April 23, the transport police detained Pomazun at a railway station in Belgorod. He resisted the police, stabbing one police officer.

Pomazun was charged with "killing six people, stealing weapons and ammunition using violence posing a danger to life and health." A criminal case has been opened against him based on the article of the Criminal Code dealing with "attempted killing of a law enforcement official."
