Russia banning imports of intestinal raw material from Brazil as of April 25
MOSCOW. April 25 (Interfax) - Russia is imposing a ban on imports of intestinal raw materials from Brazil as of April 25.
The ban is being imposed due to the "repeated detection" of ractopamine, a drug used as a feed additive to promote leanness in animals that is banned in Russia, in intestinal raw materials imported from Brazil, the Federal Veterinary and Phyto-Sanitary Oversight Service said.
If such product shipped before April 25 enters Russia it will be received as usual with subsequent mandatory lab testing for ractopamine.
The Russian watchdog said it is continuing to find ractopamine in products imported from other countries. Recently the drug was detected in beef liver from Argentina and in pork from Canada. Shipments of products from companies in violation have been put under stricter monitoring and the veterinary services of these countries have been warned about the need to strictly comply with Russian requirements for meat shipped to Russia, the veterinary service said.
