RusHydro to start building first Upper Naryn plant in Kyrgyzstan in May
BISHKEK. April 25 (Interfax) - RusHydro , Russia's largest hydropower company, plans to begin construction in May on the first of four hydropower plants of the Upper Naryn hydropower cascade in Kyrgyzstan, RusHydro chief executive Yevgeny Dod said at a meeting with Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev on Thursday.
"We are prepared to begin the process of starting up construction, laying the first concrete and deployment of all of our contractors to the site," Dod was quoted as saying by the Kyrgyz president's press service.
He said "work is going at a decent pace, all the obligations that we had are being fulfilled."
Dod also said that the feasibility study being submitted by Lengidroproyekt, the designer of the plant selected in a tender, will propose "several options," and together with Kyrgyzstan "we will quickly assess this feasibility study and we will just as quickly propose financing."
He said that the construction of the Upper Naryn cascade was discussed at the meeting of the Kyrgyz-Russian intergovernmental commission that was held in Moscow earlier this week and "all instructions on financing have been given and fixed."
"Therefore, I don't currently see any obstacles to the effective implementation of this project," Dod said.
Atambayev, in turn, noted "the importance of the timely start of construction of the Upper Naryn hydropower cascade."
The agreement on the construction of the Upper Naryn cascade with the involvement of RusHydro was signed in September 2012 during a visit to Bishkek by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
