Belgorod gunman gets new charges

MOSCOW. April 26 (Interfax) - Sergei Pomazun, the man suspected of killing several people in the center of the Russian city of Belgorod in shootouts on Monday, has had more charges brought against him, Russia's Investigative Committee said on Friday.

The new charges read, "Murder of two or more persons, including a minor, from venal or hooligan motives, theft of a weapon and ammunition," and "an attempt to murder a law enforcement officer," the Committee said in a statement.

Earlier, he was charged with "illegal killing of six persons, theft of a weapon and ammunition," and "theft of ammunition committed with the use of health- or life-threatening danger."

The statement said that on April 22 Pomazun took hold of a sporting carbine that belonged to his father, got into a BMW X5 car and drove to the Okhota (Hunt) sporting goods store in order to rob it of some weapons.

Walking into Okhota, he shot two salespersons and a customer, all of whom died on the spot. After that he stole two carbines from the store, and, going outside, shot dead three passersby, including an underage girl, "from hooligan motives."

The next day, he inflicted at least four stab wounds on one of the policemen who arrested him.

Police found five firearms and ammunition in a marsh where he had been hiding after his suspected crimes.
