Severstal mining unit wins coal section in Komi for 14 mln rubles
SYKTYVKAR. April 30 (Interfax) - Vorkutaugol , a coal producer in Severstal's Resources Division, won the auction on Tuesday on rights to explore and develop coal at the Nizhnesyryaginsky Open Pit section of the Nizhnesyryaginsky deposit in Komi republic, regional subsurface resource division Kominedra told Interfax.
"The division held auctions on two sections for production of coal. Vorkutaugol was the winner of the Nizhnesyryaginsky Open Pit section of the Nizhnesyryaginsky deposit. The starting price was 13 million rubles and the company's winning bid was 14.3 million rubles. The license will be issued for 20 years," a Kominedra representative said.
No bids were received in the other auction, on rights to shaft mine the second Nizhnesyryaginsky section. Future plans for auctioning the section have not been announced.
The forecast reserves at the open pit are estimated at 3.085 million tonnes of KZh-grade low-ash, low-sulfur coal (from 3.382 million tonnes of mined rock), including 2.567 million tonnes of C1 reserves (from 2.842 million tonnes) and 518,000 tonnes of P1 reserves (from 540,000 tonnes).
Both license territories are located in the eastern portion of the Pechora coal basin 16-18 km north-northeast of Vorkuta. The sections are near the settlement of Severny (10 km away) and the active Servernaya mine shaft and the de-commissioned Ayach-Aga mine shaft (also 10- km away), both part of Vorkutaugol. The sections are linked to Severyny via gravel road. The district includes a construction materials depot. Electricity can be supplied from the Vorkuta-2 Combined Heat and Power Plant eight km away, which is also the distance to the nearest rail line and highway.
