Putin orders Sobyanin to concentrate on security issues amid Victory Day celebrations

MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Over 1,500 events dedicated to Victory Day will be held in Moscow on May 9, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin told Russian President Vladimir Putin during a working meeting.

Sobyanin said that special attention would be paid to war veterans these days. "Unfortunately, not all veterans will be able to participate in the events due to health issues. That is why a service to congratulate veterans at their homes will be set up in Moscow," he said.

The Moscow mayor said that "a targeted care system for veterans and a health care system" was functioning in the Russian capital. Sobyanin said that thousands of veterans have received care at their homes.

Putin said that "it is necessary to consider profoundly security measures" amid a high number of May 9 events in Moscow. The Russian president ordered Sobyanin to resolve these issues jointly with law enforcement authorities.

The Russian president said that he had just discussed the issue with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.
