Moscow authorities ready to help build Bolotnaya Square rally stage
MOSCOW. May 6 (Interfax) - Moscow authorities will not obstruct organizers of the rally on Bolotnaya Square. Rather, they will help build a new stage for rally speakers, Moscow Vice-Mayor Alexander Gorbenko told Interfax.
"We will not create any impediments. Quite the opposite: we will render full support to the rally organizers," he said.
He said Moscow authorities had gotten in touch with the rally organizers who were looking for a truck as an impromptu stage.
A number of Bolotnaya Square rally organizers, among them Pyotr Tsarkov, said earlier it would be impossible to hold the action because of the death of a volunteer assembling sound equipment on the rally stage.
"Whether or not to hold the action is up to the rally organizers. As far as I know, the majority of them want the action to be held," the vice-mayor said.
A volunteer died while assembling the stage on Bolotnaya Square when a loudspeaker column fell on him.
